Wild Forest: Strategy, Cards & Battles - Community Tested

Writer: whatsyourgam3whatsyourgam3

Every week, I throw down a gaming challenge in my Discord. We pick a game, dive in, and players submit screenshots proving they hit a milestone or scored big. Prizes? Either a random raffle for those who complete the challenge or a leaderboard showdown for top scores. To wrap it up, everyone fills out a quick Google Form for feedback—sweetened by another raffle.

This week, we played Wild Forest, a fast-paced RTS that blends card collection and strategy mechanics. Battles last just five minutes, demanding quick decision-making, strategic deck-building, and precise execution. With a mix of collectible units, spells, and real-time battles, players must capture territory, manage resources, and outmaneuver opponents. But how did the community feel about it?

How Long Did You Play?

Time invested is a solid indicator of engagement. Most players fell into two groups:

  • 4+ hours club (6 players)

  • 2-4 hours range (7 players)

  • 1-2 hours (5 players)

  • Barely played due to issues or lack of interest (1 player)

A solid spread, with a good number of players sticking around for multiple hours. The fast battle format kept many engaged, but some found frustrations with balance and matchmaking.

Did You Recommend the Game to Friends?

  • Yes – 18 players

  • No – 4 players

A strong majority would recommend Wild Forest, but not without caveats. While most players found it engaging, some were put off by matchmaking inconsistencies.

Did Questing and Rewards Keep Players Hooked?

  • Yes – 17 players

  • No – 5 players

Most players found the progression system compelling enough to keep playing. However, some felt that matchmaking issues and uneven difficulty spikes made rewards feel less satisfying.

Ease of Access: Smooth or Frustrating?

  • Most players rated it 9-10, meaning it was generally easy to pick up.

  • A couple of players gave lower scores, citing minor UI issues and a learning curve.

The game is accessible overall, though some additional tutorial clarity and UI refinements could help newcomers.

Controls: Intuitive or Clunky?

  • Scores ranged from 2 to 10, with most in the 8-10 range.

  • Some mobile users struggled with responsiveness and UI layout.

The controls work well for most, but the few who had issues found them frustrating enough to impact their experience.

Graphics: Visually Appealing or Needs Work?

  • Most players rated graphics 8-10.

  • A handful of players noted animation delays and minor performance issues.

The game’s vibrant art style and animations were a highlight, though a few players mentioned that performance tweaks could improve the experience.

Core Gameplay Loop: Addictive or a Chore?

  • Majority rated it 8-10, enjoying the mix of strategy and deck-building.

  • Some felt matchmaking made battles too one-sided, dampening engagement.

When battles are balanced, the game shines. But facing AI pushovers or hyper-skilled opponents hurt the experience for some players.

Story: Engaging or Just Background Noise?

  • Most scores ranged between 7-9, with a few at 10.

  • A couple of players didn’t care about the story at all.

The worldbuilding and character design got positive feedback, but as a strategy game, the narrative took a backseat.

Hero & Equipment Variations: Enough Strategic Depth?

  • Scores mostly fell in the 7-10 range.

  • Some players want more balancing and unit variety.

While unit combinations offered interesting tactics, balance issues meant certain setups felt significantly stronger than others.

Final Thoughts: The Verdict from the Community

Players had plenty to say about their experiences, from frustrations to outright praise. Here’s what stood out:

  • Matchmaking needs fixing – “Either you get an AFK bot or a reincarnation of Napoleon moving his troops like a chess grandmaster.”

  • Progression & unit balance need tweaks – “Some strategies are just too dominant right now.”

  • Great gameplay loop when balanced – “The game is fantastic—I loved it.”

  • Graphics were a highlight – “A perfect blend of fantasy and strategy.”

Conclusion: What Needs Work?

Strengths:

  • Engaging, fast-paced strategy battles

  • Strong deck-building mechanics

  • Vibrant visuals and animations

  • Short matches make for easy pick-up-and-play

Needs Improvement:

  • Matchmaking can feel unfair

  • Some unit balance tweaks are needed

  • Minor UI and performance issues on mobile

Overall, Wild Forest is a fun and strategic RTS with a lot of potential. If the devs improve matchmaking and balance, it could be a long-term favorite.

Today we game.
